Hawkins, Estle Donald
Estle Donald (Donnie) Hawkins, 61, of Claytor Lake died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday evening November 8, 2007.
He was born on March 12, 1946 in Pulaski and was the son of the late Roby Estle Hawkins. Donnie was a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church, Radford. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in the Vietman War and he was retired from the United Parcel Service.
Although struggling with Parkinson Disease for twelve years Donnie never gave up his zest for life and was able to continue to enjoy his life passions of playing golf, fishing and being a loyal fan of the Arizona Cardinals of the NFL.
Surviving are his mother, Julia Anderson Hawkins, Pulaski; his devoted and loving wife of 43 years, Joan Dalton Hawkins, Claytor Lake; sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jane Hawkins Viers and Walter Viers, Draper; nephew, Todd Viers and his wife Laura, Pulaski; great-niece, Lauren, Pulaski; father-in-law, Plenny Dalton, Pulaski; uncles, Paul Anderson and Kenneth Anderson, and wife Dockie Anderson, all of Pulaski; sister-in-law, Joyce Ann Walker and her husband, Ken, Florida; brothers-in-law, Wendell Dalton and his wife Brenda, Tennessee, and Kelly Dalton and his wife Gaye, Dublin; special friends, Mel and Diane Tolbert, Dublin, and Charlie Artrip, Radford.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the Thornspring Cemetery, Pulaski County with Pulaski VFW Post #1184 conducting the military graveside rites. Visiting will be Sunday evening from the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski.
