Gary Chester Havens, 69, of Narrows went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 18, 2007 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side.

He was born on September 28, 1937 and was the son of the late John McKinley and Mattie B. Bradley Havens. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dusty Millard Havens and two sisters, Betty Jean Hammons and Sandra Joyce Havens.

He was a retired employee of Celanese Acetate in Narrows with 39 years service. He was a special father and a loving husband, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Frances Louise Stevens Havens; four daughters and their husbands, Cheryl and Curtis Cooper of Narrows, Kathy and Mike Mabry of Narrows, Carol and Leroy Dalton of Pembroke, and Leslie and Steve Hetherington of Narrows; five grandchildren, Melissa and Marvin Crutchfield, Gary Cooper and fiance Kareen Griggs, Amanda and Henry Brooks, Tyler Dalton, Jamie and Ryan Hetherington; five great-grandchildren, Hunter, Jacob and Dustin Cumbee, and Josh and Abby Brooks; a special niece, Elinda Elliott; special friends and neighbors, Earl and Faye Lindsey, Bud Gray, Crystal Sparks; and his best friend, his Basset Hound Snoopy.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 21, 2007 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Stinson Cemetery at White Gate. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.
