Hatfield, Roger Lee

Roger Lee Hatfield, age 75, of Ballard, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, March 16, 2018. Born November 28, 1942, in Kansas City, MO, he was the son of the late Steven and Violet Hatfield.

Roger was a dedicated servant of the Lord. He was in nursing home ministry for 35 years, visiting three nursing homes and one assisted living home every month, also making home visits to the sick and shut in of the community. He was an Evangelist for 20 years and Pastor of New Zion Regular Baptist Church for the past ten years. He loved ministering to people everywhere he went. Additionally, Roger served three years in the United States Navy.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his foster parents George and Genevieve Jensen; nine brothers and sisters; one son, Roger Steven; one daughter, Cynthia; and his father and mother-in-law, Harvey and Mildred Adkins.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, June Hatfield; his children, Becky Shrader and husband Chip of Shawsville, VA, Jeff Hatfield and wife Lisa of Peterstown, WV, Kim Thomason and husband Jerry of Princeton, WV, and Rhonda Thomason and husband Terry of Camp Creek, WV; eight grandchildren, Jeremiah Hatfield, Beth Rinker and husband Michael, James Hatfield and wife Sarah, Michelle Morrill and husband Zack, Zachary Hatfield and wife Briana, Caleb Hatfield, Kristi Shrader, and Samantha Thomason; three great grandchildren, Kortlen, Thomas, and Lily; Five step-grandchildren, Trinity, Austin, Caiden, Ryan, and Sophia Bell; the mother of his grandsons, Nanette Hatfield; one brother, Homer Hatfield of Kansas City, MO; four sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Additionally, the family would like to send a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Carilion Giles Community Hospital and the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 19, 2018, at the New Zion Regular Baptist Church in Elgood, WV, with Youth Pastor Chris Roberts, Buddy Blanton, Pastor Joe Spencer, Pastor Jerry Martin, Pastor Danny Clegg, and Pastor Trevor Price officiating. Burial will follow at Orchard Cemetery in Ballard, WV, with Roger’s grandsons serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Monday, March 19, 2018, at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at the church.
