Harvey, Roy Winfred

Roy (Jack) Winfred Harvey, 77, of Newport, Va. passed away at his home Tuesday evening, February 23, 2010. Mr. Harvey was born on April 7, 1932 in Newport, Va. and was a son of the late Charles Goff Harvey and Irma Mae Bowyer Harvey. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Louise Tawney Harvey, one brother, Jim Harvey and one sister, Freeda Price. Mr. Harvey was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the Sherry Memorial Christian Church in Newport and was a retired machinist from Electro-Tec. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Sherman R. and Angela Breen Harvey, of Newport; one granddaughter, Kayla L. Harvey, of Newport and her fiancé, Todd Evans, of Pembroke; three brothers, Charles Lowe Harvey, of Newport, Mike Harvey, of Newport, Garry Harvey, of Maybrook; three sisters, Ola Faye Craighead, of Christiansburg, Lois Genevieve Price, of Blacksburg, Vivian Link, of Newport; and one aunt, Mary Reynolds, of Covington. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 26, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Va. with the Rev. Matthew Cox officiating. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Newport Rescue Squad or the Newport Fire Department.
