Harvey, Jackie L.

Jackie L. Harvey, 83, of 7616 Seneca Trail South, Peterstown, WV, departed this life December 7, 2021. He may have lost his battle against prostate cancer but won the war, as he gained his heavenly wings peacefully, in his home surrounded by his loving family while listening to “I Can Only Imagine”. Jackie was a godly man who loved his Lord. He and Pat traveled for many years with the James Gaunce Lay-Witness Mission Team (Kentucky) and the Hugh McMillon Lay-Witness Mission Team (Mississippi) to many states spreading God’s love and message of salvation.

He was born to the late Lula C. and James Arnett Harvey in Rock Camp, WV on September 24, 1938. He became a member of the Lindside United Methodist Church in 1963. He loved his church family, and he worked hard to help with their yearly WV State Fair Project. In the early years, he would take vacation to drive back and forth to Fairlea and work daily at the Lindside United Methodist Church Stand. Later, he took his camper and camped the entire time so that he was able to work at the church stand. He loved selling hot dogs and hamburgers and laughing and joking with customers. He also loved a few games of Bingo and pitching dimes during his breaks. For many years, the entire drink collection in Harvey kitchen was glasses and cups won from pitching dimes at the fair.

Jackie retired from Hoechst-Celanese after 36 years of service. Retirement was filled making memories with his family, traveling, dining out, flea marketing, and watching every western made while cuddling with his fur-babies Maddie and Trey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rosa Dean Harvey.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia (Pat) Harvey. Daughters, Dr. Kathy Harvey and husband, Dr. Raymond Rushden of Logan, WV; Debbie Forren and husband, Homer of Greenville, WV. Granddaughters, Amber Dillon and husband Anthony of Waynesboro, VA; Dr Brittany Dillon of Concord, NC. Great-granddaughter, Adelyne Dillon of Waynesboro, VA. Sisters, Emma Jean Brown (Bob) of Peterstown, WV, and Linda Miller (Ricky) of Sissonsville, WV. Special in-laws, Nancy and Bill Utterback of Lindside WV, Sonie and Jimmy Allen of Lewisburg, WV, and Gayle and Dicky Allen, of Peterstown, WV. Additionally, he leaves a whole host of nieces, nephews and cousins left to cherish precious memories.

A special thank you for the excellent care provided by Keisha Ballard, Nancy Ford, Debbie Heffner, and Julie Southers. Also, a very special thank you to Patchila Carter for her compassion and empathy every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during his baths.

Visitation will be Friday, December 10, 2021, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM. Life celebration service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 2:00PM. After which, Jackie will be cremated as per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lindside United Methodist Church (PO Box 151, Lindside, WV 24951).
