Harvey, Helen Perlena Stigger

Helen Perlena Stigger Harvey, 66, of New River, Va., departed this life on January 1, 2008, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 1, 1941, in New River, Va., the daughter of the late Shadrek Stigger and Julia Arnold Stigger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Harvey Sr. Helen was a faithful member of First Missionary Baptist Church, New River, Va., where she served as a choir member and in several other church organizations. She attended public school in Pulaski County and attended Christiansburg Institute. Helen was a retired employee of Saint Albans Hospital.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Jerome Harvey Jr.; one brother, Governor (Loretta) Stigger, of New River, Va.; two sisters, Olivia Casey, Washington, D.C., and Bertha (Elder L.C.) Parson, of Roanoke, Va.; one granddaughter, Aliyeanna Wiggins; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2008, at First Missionary Baptist Church, New River, Va., with the Reverend Ronald Brown officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at First Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be at the New River Cemetery. Penn’s Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
