Hartman, David Booth, Sr.
David Booth Hartman, Sr., age 96, of Christiansburg, formerly of Hampton died, Saturday, September 3, 2016, at his daughter’s home. He was born in Gibbstown, NJ on November 22, 1919 to the late Frank Everett and Mabel Virginia Cullen Hartman.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nell Boswell Hartman; four brothers, Frank, Bobby, Billy, and Richard Hartman; his sister, Beverly Gibson.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in WWII and was seconded to the OSS and served in the China Burma India Theater. He was later recalled to active duty and served in Germany. In his later years he returned to active duty and served at various Air Force bases around the country. Mr. Hartman was an Elder at First Presbyterian Church, Newport News, and was later an active member of First Christian Church, Hampton. He was very active with Peninsula Pathfinders Walking Club.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Steve Crate; son, David B. Hartman, Jr.; grandchildren, Eric Hartman, Jonathan Hartman, Caitlin Hartman, Emma Hartman, and Jennie Crate; and great-grandchild, Jesse Hartman.
A Memorial Service will be conducted Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Christian Church, 1458 Todds Lane, Hampton, Va 23666, with the Rev. Marcia Fuson officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hampton YMCA, First Christian Church of Hampton, and Carillon New River Valley Hospice.
