Harrison, Nell Thomas

Nell Thomas Harrison of Blacksburg, passed away on Monday, January 26, at Tampa General Hospital following triple-bypass heart surgery. She would have been 83 years of age this coming March.

Nell is survived by her husband, William Harrison, of Blacksburg, Va.; two daughters, Vala Cox (Don), of New Port Richey, Fla., and Lee Austin (John), of Richmond, Va.; her two brothers, Kelly Thomas (Bettye), of Birmingham, Ala., and John Payne Thomas (Carolyn), of Linden, Ala.; and her four granddaughters, Jan, Jessica, Julie, and Joy Austin; one grandson, Dallas Cox; and one great grandson, Dominic Cox, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nell lived to celebrate her 60th wedding anniversary in Florida on December 26, 2014, with all of her immediate family. It was indeed a highlight and joyous occasion in her life! She was a remarkable lady, so dearly and well loved by all who knew her. She became diabetic at age 19, and was never expected to survive to age 82, much less experience the vibrant and rewarding life that she had.

She was a trooper through and through. So very many of us loved her, and we all sadly mourn her passing, even though we know for sure that her spirit now resides in a far better place in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden, AL. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at Myrtlewood Cemetery in Marengo County, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nell Harrison Memorial Fund at Blacksburg Baptist Church, 550 North Main St., Blacksburg, VA 24060.
