Vannie F. Harris, 88, of Lynchburg, formerly of Radford, Va., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 12, 2009. She was born on January 28, 1921, in Herndon W.Va., to the late George and Velma Fitzwater. In addition to her parents, Vannie was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle T. Harris.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia H. Steppe, of Lynchburg, and Pamela H. Smith, of Hubert, N.C.; four grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; one brother, Chester W. Fitzwater; and numerous nieces and nephews.

For many years, Mama ran a Day Care at her home in Radford and was called “Nannie” by the children and their parents.

Graveside services will be held 2p.m. on Saturday March 14, 2009, in the Mausoleum at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin with the Rev. Richard Worringham officiating. Visitation will be at the mausoleum one hour prior to the service.

The family wishes to express their gratitude and love to the staff and caregivers of the Gardens unit of the Summit Health & Rehab center for their love, devotion and support in caring for “Our Mother” and has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
