Harris, Marvin Taswell

Marvin Taswell Harris, 83, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2010. He was born July 4, 1926, in Floyd County, Va. to the late Wyatt Lee and Mammie Elizabeth Akers Harris. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Alma Gay Harris and Lessie Smith. He served his country in the United States Army. He was a Sergeant for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office prior to retiring from Virginia Tech as a locksmith. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Moore Harris; son, Kevin W. Harris and wife, Susan Duncan Harris, of Childress, Va.; granddaughters, Emily Nicole Harris and Lyndsay Elizabeth Harris; nieces, Norma Bobbitt, of Hillsville, Va., and Rebecca Smith, of Christiansburg, Va.; nephew, Harold Smith, of Christiansburg, Va.; and his beloved cat, “Ling–Ling”. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association . The family will receive friends on Monday, May 3, 2010, from 4 until 6 p.m at Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted following the visitation at 6 p.m. with Pastor Kathy Hale officiating.
