Harris, George Edward

George Edward Harris, 74, born February 28, 1933. Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend departed this life on Friday, April 13, 2007 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters and a son, Ricky Dewayne Harris from Christiansburg, Va. He was the last surviving child of George and Girtie Harris from Snowville, Va. He worked at Virginia Tech Experience Station for about 40 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years of marriage, Peggy Lee Harris of Christiansburg, Va.; Edward’s sons, Ronald Edward Harris, Tommy Dale Harris, and Barry Lee Harris, all of Christiansburg, Va.; Edward’s grandsons, Justin Bryan Harris, from Nashville, Tenn., Travis Allen Harris from Christiansburg, Va., and Matthew Scott Harris from Christiansburg, Va.; granddaughter-in-law, Jessica Conner Harris of Christiansburg, Va.; great-granddaughter, McKenzie Lee Harris, the apple of his eye (Ed); a special cousin and her husband, Eva and Tas O’Dell; a special aunt, Ruth Holmes, loved her like a sister; lots of nephews and nieces.

The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Montgomery Regional Hospital. A special thanks to Doctor McCoy and staff. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 15, 2007 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 16, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wallace Yopp and the Rev. Layne Board officiating.
