Joseph Davis (J.D.) Harman, 80, of Radford, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2008. He was retired Clerk of Circuit Court for the City of Radford, a realtor with Bondurant Realty for 25 years and a lifetime member of Grove United Methodist Church.

He was a United States Marine having served during World War II.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Betty Lester Harman, of Radford; two daughters and son-in-law, Susan Reece, of Savannah, Ga., and Ann and Tracy Howard, of Radford; four grandchildren, Dustin Reece, Amanda Howard, Brendan Howard and Daley Howard; a brother and sisterin-law, Charles and Cornelia Dorsey, of Athens, Ga.; and sisters-in-law, Gertrude W. Lester, of Roanoke, and June Lester, of Virginia Beach. He enjoyed a close relationship with his nieces and nephews including Ted Bratton, John Bratton, Pat Lester, Mike Lester, Sue Cox and their families.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2008, at the Grove United Methodist Church in Radford with the Rev. Karen Lane officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church memorial garden where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct Military Graveside Rites.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2008, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Grove UMC Memorial Garden Fund, 2716 Tyler Avenue, Radford, Va. 24141.
