Harman, Frances Howard Millner
Frances Howard Millner Harman, of Floyd, passed on January 10, 2012 after a long life of service and devotion to her family, friends, and community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Christopher C. Harman. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Chris and Ginny Harman, Jeanie Harman O’Neil and Tom O’Neil, and Temple Harman Garrison and Daniel Garrison, all of Floyd. Lovingly called Mammy by her seven grandchildren, Julie Harman Dovan and Wayne Dovan, New York City, Chris and Rebecca Harman, Floyd, Jason and Heidi Harman, Floyd, Adam and Erin Harman, Winston Salem, N.C., Thomas “Doc” and Jennifer O’Neill, Abingdon, Jabe and Marley O’Neil, Greensboro, N.C., Brennan O’Neill, Radford and 15 great-grandchildren. She will be missed by each for her opinions and advice on how one should conduct themselves in life. She was a member of the Floyd United Methodist Church choir, DAR, Colonial Dames (17th Century), Regents of DAR, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the past president of Virginia Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary. She loved to study genealogy and tell stories of family wit and devotion to the heritage. We wish to celebrate her long life of grace, fortitude, honesty, compassion and civility, gifts she has so magnificently passed on to those who knew and loved her. Frances was an accomplished artist and pianist. She captured many Floyd County landmarks in her primitive style and many have been donated throughout the town. Visitation will be Thursday, January 11, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Floyd United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Floyd United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. Interment to follow in Jacksonville Cemetery with committal service by Chris S. Harman.
