alice_meadows_harmanAlice Bernice Meadows Harman, 91 of Glen Lyn, departed her earthly life at 2 AM on Thursday, July 10th, 2014 with her family by her side. She was born on East River Mountain in Mercer County on January 28th, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Dolph Meadows and Hattie Arizona Perdue Meadows.

In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Harman; daughters, Carol Furr and Charlotte Sweighart; grandsons William (Billy) Harman and Michael Harman; a great-great grandson, Braxton Meadows; a daughter-in-law Sherri Harman; five brothers and one sister.

She leaves as her legacy her children, Jack Furr (widower of Carol), Lorna Shoemaker and husband Tony, Gary Harman, Barry Harman and wife Debbie, Kathy Dotson and husband Duane, Donna Vaught and husband Doug, and Drema Horn and husband Danny; 18 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

A celebration of Bernice’s life will be held Monday, July 14th, 2014 at 12 noon in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. Dr. Jerry Mann officiating. Burial will follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Rich Creek. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service Sunday from 6 to 9 PM. Any expression of sympathy is appreciated. The family suggests any charity of your choice, or a small gift to cheer up someone in need.
