Samuel Matthew (Matt) Harless, 23, of Shawsville, passed away tragically on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, while fishing along the banks of the New River. Matt was a 2002 graduate of Eastern Montgomery High School and was employed by Blue Ridge Heating and Air Conditioning. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed playing the guitar and hanging out with his buddies. Matt enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest and was constantly surrounded by his many friends and family. Uncle “Matty” was adored by his three nieces and will be tremendously missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Harold Moses and J.R. Harless; uncles, Joe Harless, B.B. Harless. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Debbie Harless; grandmother, Minnie Moses (Maw Maw); sister and brother-in-law, Staci and Josh Boone; nieces, Logan, Madison and Olivia; and his special aunt, Cindy Moses. Survivors also include father, Allen Harless; grandmother, Audrey Preston (Ben); half brother, Chris Wilson; aunt, Sharon King (Scott); and uncle, Mike Harless (Debbie). Matt also had the honor of having Dougie Sisson (Angie) and Rodney Radford (Patty) as father figures. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Charitable Trust in memory of Matt Harless, P.O. Box 321, Shawsville, Va. 24162. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, Va. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 208, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Pastor Bob Martin with interment to follow in Piedmont Cemetery.
