harless_emory_davidEmory David Harless, 68, of Radford, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2011. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother and beloved by all. His favorite pastimes included biking the New River Trail, gardening, and woodworking. He and his wife enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling together. He was a draftsman and manufacturing engineer with over 40 years of service at Kollmorgen Inland Motor. As a loyal member of Central United Methodist Church for 39 years, he chaired and served on numerous committees. He was a member of the RU Wesley Foundation Board and instrumental in the care and planning of its ministry. As a child of God, David believed in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ through everything he did. He led countless youth from Central UMC and Wesley students on mission trips patiently teaching his carpentry skills and sharing his greater gift that of offering the love of Jesus Christ to everyone he encountered. His gentle, peaceful demeanor, his warm smile and handshake, and his willingness to help anyone at anytime bore witness to his Christian spirit and his love for all people. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel Harless; and sister, Helen Caldwell. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Marcy E. Harless; son and daughter-inlaw, Scott and Kristie Harless, of Salem; two daughters and son-in-law, Mandy Harless, of Christiansburg, and Ashley and Chad Wall, of Richmond; four grandchildren, Will and Andrew Harless and Madeline and Caroline Wall; brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Shirley Harless, of Parrott; sister, Ella Roop, of Prices Fork; and brother-in-law, Kent Caldwell, of Christiansburg. Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Central United Methodist Church in Radford with the Rev. Mike Carter and the Rev. Don Shelor officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at the church.
