C.L. Hardy, 67, died December 13, 2006. He was born June 7, 1939 in Kinston, N.C., son of the late Harmon and Gladys Hardy.

He was a graduate of Davidson College where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega. After receiving a Master’s degree in English from the University of Virginia, C.L. taught briefly at Appalachian State before pursuing further graduate coursework at the University of Georgia and then taking a position in the English Department at Virginia Tech, where he taught for more than 20 years. He was renowned for his excellent teaching, appreciation of literature, humor, profound love of music, and sociability.

He is survived by his uncle James Creech of Kinston, N.C. and half brother Harmon Hardy, Jr. C.L. leaves behind a wide circle of friends who became his family, most particularly James O. Hoge, Jr., Carol Hoge and their family.

The funeral will take place Friday, December 15, 2006 at 1 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg. Burial will take place in the family plot in Kinston, N.C.
