James Monroe Hanks, called by Gene or Pepper, 86, of Pulaski, Va., went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Pulaski Community Hospital. He was retired from R.A.A.P. after 20 years of service.

Mr. Hanks was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Bell Hanks; by a granddaughter, Alice Mae Wade; and by a son-in-law, George Owens. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lonnie Hanks; by three stepbrothers, Arnold, Malvin and Fizer Frazier; and by sisters, Stella Chandler, Ethel Burcham and Marie Crowder.

He was a member of the Peak Creek Mission of Prayer, Pulaski.

Left to cherish his memory are daughters and sons-in-law, Mae and Raymond Chinault, Wanda and Bobby Southern, and Jo Ann Owens; seven grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; one greatgreat-grandchild; one precious little friend, Kiwi Goodson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Luther and Louise Hanks, Dennis and Marie Hanks, and Donald and Fern Hanks; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Elene Pope, Katherine and Kyle Frazier, and Myrtle and Russell Bridge.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2010, from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dale Akers and the Rev. Randall Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010, from the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials be made to the Peak Creek Mission of Prayer, Case Knife Road, Pulaski, Va. 24301.
