Hanks, Edward Lee

Edward Lee (Bud) Hanks, 78, of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, December 10, 2007, at his home with his dear wife of 55 years, Marietta Edwards Hanks.

He is survived by his sons, Charles Edward Hanks and wife, Linda, of Salem and William (Billy) Hanks and wife, Terry, of Christiansburg; five grandchildren, whom he dearly loved, Brandon, Ramsey, Lindsey, Kayla and Dylan Hanks; his brother, Frank Hanks and wife, Betty, of Christiansburg; sisters, Helen Ireland, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and Faye Worrell, of Sanford, Florida; many special nieces and nephews and special friends, Jim and Martha Mannon of Floyd.

Bud was preceded in death by his father, Parley Franklin Hanks and mother, Hattie Morris Hanks; sisters, Beulah Horton, Ruth Chandler, Kate Board, Bonnie Nester and Virginia Pearl Hanks.

Bud retired from RAAP in 1991 with 40-1/2 years of service. He enjoyed hunting for many years and the last few years he enjoyed watching sports on TV. He never wanted to miss a Virginia Tech football game. He was a member of and attended St. Paul United Methodist Church.

A big note of thanks is given to Dr. Phillip Shiner and his staff, along with the nursing staff at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Also, many thanks to Phyllis Alls of Pearisburg, in-home caregiver, who has done a wonderful job helping care for Bud during his final weeks.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be sent to Good Samaritan Hospice, 3825A Electric Road, SW, Roanoke, Va. 24018. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at the Horne Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 12 noon Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Brian Siegel and the Rev. Dr. David Goodpasture with interment to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The Hanks family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, Va., (382-2612).
