hankins_june_mortonJune Morton Hankins, of Blacksburg, was born on June 14, 1925 in Frostburg, Maryland. She was a long time resident of Blacksburg but also lived in Lakeland, Florida and Lynchburg, Virginia where she died on July 6, 2014. She met her faithful and devoted husband Harold Hankins when they worked together at Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center.

June is survived by her husband of 63 years, three children: Janet Hankins Jappe [Mark], Lynnette Hankins Conder [Steve] and Matthew Hankins [Rhonda], ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one godson. As an only child, June always cherished Harold’s large family of nine siblings, and they embraced her as one of their own.

June had an infectious smile and her deep love for Jesus overflowed. She never knew a stranger. Although her presence will be deeply missed, we rejoice that she is now walking peacefully with Jesus.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, July 10th from 6-8pm at McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg [mccoyfuneralhome.com]. A memorial service is planned for Friday, July 11th at 11am, Blacksburg United Methodist Church, 111 Church St SE [blacksburgumc.org]. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting that you give in memory of June to one of her favorite charitable organizations: Pregnancy Resource Center of the New River Valley, 708 North Main Street, Ste. 200 Blacksburg, VA 24060 or Samaritan’s Purse [samaritanspurse.org].
