Richard Franklin Handy Jr., age 84, of Pulaski, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013 at Carrington Place in Wytheville. Born May 25, 1929 in Bland County, he was the son of the late Richard Franklin Handy Sr. and Alma Jane Turman Handy.

His son, James Marvin Handy; daughter, Linda Sue Davis; granddaughter, Ida Denise Hand; sister, Lena Mae Newman, and brothers, James and Jack Handy also preceded him in death.

He was retired from Lynchburg Foundry with over 25 years of service and also worked at NRO Gas, Pulaski and RAAP.

He is survived by his Special Friend and Life Companion, Helen Emanuel of Pulaski; ex-wife, Eula Mantz of Dublin; children, Betty and husband, Dale, Blankenship of Pulaski, the Rev. William “Bill” and wife, Jane, Handy of Dublin, and Crystal Baker of Dublin; five Step-children, Belinda Ann Hinkley, Cindy Wilcox, Theresa Bowman, Katrina Altizer and Rusty Mantz, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Lola Showalter of Pennsylvania, Patsy Thomas of Highpoint, N.C., Juanita Sherman of Highpoint, N.C.; brothers, Leland Handy Sr. of Marion, N.C., and Ferrell Handy Highpoint, N.C.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. in Bower Funeral Home Chapel, Pulaski, with Rev. Cody Akers officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday evening at the Funeral Home.
