Hammersly, Mary Lois

Mary Lois Hammersley, 62, of Salem, Va., has gone to be with the Lord. Her special qualities and strength will never be forgotten in the hearts of those who knew and loved her so very much.

She was born May 21, 1944, in Giles County, Va., a daughter of the late Wille E. and Mary Christine Cumbee King. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Shepherd.

She is survived by her husband, Frank (Peanut) Hammersley; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth (Kenny) and Becky Linkous; stepchildren, Rosie Bland, Charlie Hammersley, Debbie Jones, and Susan Cook; three brothers and sister in-law, Ricky and Brenda King, G. W. King and Jimmy King; three sisters, Rebecca (Bunny) and William Price, Dyeann and Marvin Francisco and Carolyn and Toby Taylor; three grandchildren, Jenny Linkous, Jeremy and Jason Poe; twelve stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Betty Lowery and Niki.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m., Monday, April 2, 2007, from the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with the Rev. Gary Butcher officiating. Interment will follow in East Hill Cemetery, Salem. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.johnmoakey.com.
