Sara Ellen Hammaker, of Blacksburg, died April 27, 2007 at the Kroontje Health Care center, Warm Hearth Village, Blacksburg, Va. She was born November 22, 1916 in Lewistown, Pennsylvania where she resided until 1997 when Dr. and Mrs. Hammaker moved to Woodside Terrace, Warm Hearth Village where he died in 2000.

Mrs. Hammaker began a teaching career in elementary education in 1937 and retired in 1976. She attended Millersville Pennsylvania States Teacher’s College and received her B.S. and M.S. degrees from Penn State University.

While living in Lewistown she was active with the Mifflin County Retired Teachers Association, AAUW, and Delta Kappa Gamma educational fraternity, and a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church. In Blacksburg she was an affiliate member of the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, Blacksburg, Va.

She is survived by her daughter Winifred I. Myers; son-in-law, Lester H. Myers, of Blacksburg, Va.; two grandchildren, Robert B. Myers of East Amherst, New York and Jennifer E. Tisler of Burke, Va.; six great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Anna Miller of Lewistown, Pa.

A funeral services will be held at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown, Pa. on Monday, April 30, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Mt. Rock Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Roth will officiate.

A second memorial service will be held at the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church in Blacksburg on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Alex Evans officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for Sara E. Hammaker may be made to the Warm Hearth Foundation, 2603 Warm Hearth Drive, Blacksburg, Va. 24060. Warm Hearth is a life-care, nonprofit community where Sara lived for the past 10 years. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg and Barr Funeral Home, Lewistown, Pa.
