Hamlin, Phoebe Kate

Phoebe Kate Hamlin, 84, of Blacksburg, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. She was a member of Fairview Community Church, Blacksburg. She was born May 18, 1929 in Montgomery County. Phoebe was preceded in death by her husband, James C. (Cleve) Hamlin; parents Harvey M. Smith, Sr. and Lucy A. Smith; sisters, Viola Hamlin and Katherine Hutchison; brother William Smith. Phoebe is survived by one brother, H.M. Smith, Jr. of Blacksburg; nieces, Marsha Caldwell and husband Philip, Kathy McCoy, Sharon Rowland and husband Dan, Wanda Wylam and husband Danny; nephews, Dennis Hutchison and wife, Diane, Michael Hutchison, Anthony Linkous and wife Belinda, David Smith, Larry Smith, Monte Smith and wife Bonnie, Randy Smith and wife Kerri, seven great nieces and four great nephews along with her church family and numerous other friends and relatives. The family would like to express sincere thanks and appreciation to Ashley Owens and Donna Webb for their loving care of Phoebe for the last two years. Also, sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center and Fresenius Dialysis Center of Montgomery County for the excellent and compassionate care she received. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, Sept. 5, at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, Sept. 6, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Jimmie L. Price and Rev. Dennis Hutchison.
