Vergie was born in the Little Creek Community of Bland County to Charles W. and Vicie M. Davis. She graduated from Pulaski High School in 1954. She moved to Roanoke after marrying her husband Arnold in 1956. Vergie and Arnold moved back to Little Creek in 1995 before returning to Roanoke in 2016 when Arnold’s health began to fail. They were long time members of Davis United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Arnold, brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Virginia S. Davis of Little Creek, and Allen and Virginia Y. Davis of Wytheville, and brother-in-law, Richard Matz of Little Creek. Vergie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Ann-Marie Hamblin of Fincastle, and Scott and Linda Hamblin of Roanoke. She is lovingly remembered by her granddaughter, Sarah Hamblin of Fincastle, her sister, Mildred Matz of Little Creek, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Davis United Methodist Church in Little Creek.
