Hall Sr., Avria Ethredge

Avria Ethredge (Ebb) Hall, Sr., 94, of Dublin, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 6, 2007.

He was the son of the late Jefferson Davis Hall and Ada White Hall, of Pulaski. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Hall, Melvin Hall, Glenn Hall, Ivan Hall, Woodrow Hall, Otis Hall and Hensel Hall and his sisters, Ruby Howlett and Manola McCraw.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 68 years, Mattie Mae Smith Hall; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Bonnie Hall, Avria Hall and special friend, Kathy Henderson, Terry and Vicki Hall and Tim and Kim Hall; daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Dave Conner, Sue and Jim McAllister and Chelsea and Rob Hoback; grandchildren and their spouses, Ken and Jan Hall, Jason and Jessica Hall, Kristie and Matt Legg, David Conner, Becca Conner, Tiffany and James Strickland, Tyke Hall and fiance, Jen Carlos, Travis Hall, Toby Hall, Terri and Jeff Padgett, Jordan McAlister, Tyler Hall, Emilie Hall, Alex Hoback and Maggie Hoback; his great-grandchildren, Taylor Hall, Morgan Hall, Brandon Hall, Jordan Hall, Claire Hall, Madolyn Legg, Ella Strickland, Reece Strickland, Madison Padgett, Mac Padgett, Emerson Padgett and baby boy Strickland, who will arrive in March; sisters, Thelma Wheeling, Alva Delmar and Helen King and sisters-in-law, Helen Hall and Janie Hall.

Ebb was an avid gardener who was known for not just one, but many gardens each year and who often entered prize winning vegetables in the local fair. As a respected member of the community, he was honored to have the road on which he resided named in his behalf. Ebb was a proud servant of his country as a veteran of World War II, serving as an infantryman in the Third Army under George Patton and receiving a Purple Heart.

He was retired from the Radford Ammunition plant, with 19 years of service and was also a local businessman, owning stores in Dublin and Pulaski. Ebb was a lifetime member of the Mt. View United Methodist Church, where he served as Superintendent for many years. He was known for his love of God and spoke often from the Bible, as to how it influenced his life and his way of living. He was a colorful storyteller who could talk for hours about his life experiences and family. With all of his many contributions to this world, he will be most remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather (PawPaw), brother, uncle and friend.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m., from Stevens Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Schoeneman officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, with Pulaski VFW Post #1184 conducting the military graveside rites. Visitation will be Saturday evening from the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski.
