Mattie’s major role on earth was raising and nurturing her family. Her children were definitely her pride and joy. She was most happy when her “preciouses” visited her. She was known for being one of the best cooks in the Mt. View community. No one could cook chicken and dumplings, green beans and fried apple pies like Mattie Mae! One of Mattie’s special hobbies was caring for her many houseplants…a trait she received from her mother. Mattie was a beautiful lady who was always proud of her being crowned Miss Dublin in 1937. Mattie was a life-long member of the Mt. View United Methodist Church. She loved her God, her church and her church family. Hymns and gospel music were a constant in the house. Mattie’s family wishes to thank Good Samaritan Hospice and her many caretakers who were instrumental in her care during the last years of her life. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2011, from Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Schoeneman and Paul Goshorn officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Highland Memory Gardens Dublin. Visitation will be held on Friday evening, September 30, 2011, from the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Contributions in Mattie’s memory may be made to Mattie’s Pantry at the Mt.
