Hale, Ward Calvin (Bud)

airforceWard Calvin (Bud) Hale, 75, of 2767 Red Marshall Rd., Pelham, N.C. died, Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health for the past two years. Born on June 27, 1938, in Blacksburg, Va., he was a son of the late Andy Mitchell Hale and Mamie Caldwell Hale. Mr. Hale served in the United States Air Force and later worked as a Tire Salesman at Smith-Davis Tire Co. He was a member of the Tabernacle and worked with the Awana’s, Bible School, and was a former choir member. He was active with the Danville Bluegrass Association, and was a former DJ of the Saturday Night Hall of Fame on WAKG. On April 6, 1958, he married Rebecca Young Hale, who survives of the residence. In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Johnny D. Hale, of the residence, Randall Carey Hale, and wife, Linda, Jeffrey Alan Hale, and wife, Vivian, both of Danville, Va.; a brother, Gene Hale, and wife, Charlotte, of Blacksburg, Va.; a sister, Marie H. Ward, and husband, Lawrence, of Illinois; three grandchildren, Ashley Hale, Erin and Ryan Smith. He was predeceased by a sister, Estelle Hoyt; and a brother, James Hodge. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 13, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel conducted by the Rev. Lamar Mooneyham and the Rev. R.J. Barber Jr. Interment followed in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the United States Army and American Legion, Post 1097 Honor Guard.
