Carolyn Deloris Helton Hackney, 76, of Pearisburg, VA, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born February 22, 1945, to Marvin and Freelove Helton. She was born and raised in Smyth County, VA.

Carolyn has enjoyed almost 54 glorious years living in Giles County taking care of and raising her family. For 36 of those years, she enjoyed working with her husband and daughters as owner and operator of Little Giant Grocery Stores. She also enjoyed activities with many special friends. Golfing, playing bridge and bingo, and going out to dinner were some of her favorites. For many years, a large group of friends enjoyed an annual Nashville trip, numerous golf trips, and for more than 50 years, an annual vacation with the Dowdy’s to Myrtle Beach SC where many fond memories have been made.

She is survived by her husband of almost 57 years, Fred Hackney, and daughters, Trina Rollins and husband, Mark of Rye Cove VA, and Sharon Shell and husband David of Knoxville TN. Her two grandsons were her greatest joy in life. Chase Rollins of Abingdon VA, and Kyle Rollins of Rye Cove VA. A granddaughter-in-law is being added to our family later this year and that is Kyle’s fiancée, Abigail Farmer of Dungannon VA. Carolyn was the seventh of ten children and is survived by three sisters. Alda Carrico and husband, June, Janice Haga, and Sue McKinnon, all of Marion VA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and special cousins.
