Donald Haas died unexpectedly in Blacksburg, Va., on Saturday, December 26, 2009, of a heart complication that came on suddenly.

Born in Cambridge, Mass., on May 14, 1955, he lived in Arlington, Mass., where he attended Arlington High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He was an avid bodybuilder. In 2004, he was diagnosed with a medication related toxic encephalopathy. He had, since 2007, been recovering at the Lakeview Neurocare facility in Blacksburg.

He was predeceased by his father, Howard C. Haas. He is survived by his mother, Flora Nathan Haas, of Blacksburg; his sister, Judith Sumner; and by Ruth Haas, of Arlington, Mass.

No funeral is planned. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
