Guynn, Margaret Emily

Mrs. Margaret Emily Guynn, of Rich Creek, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013, in Pearisburg, Va. She was born in Valdosta, Ga., on November 11, 1923, and was the daughter of the late George H. Mayne and Anna Simmons Mayne. She was the widow of David C. Guynn Sr. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a stepfather, Norwood Harrell; and a granddaughter, Anna Emily Guynn. She is survived by her sons, David C. Guynn Jr. and wife, Susan, of Seneca, S.C., and Michael N. Guynn, of Rick Creek, Va. She is survived also by two granddaughters, Karen G. Harbin and husband, Brian, of Westminster, S.C., and Laura G. Ward, of Easley, S.C. She has one great-grandson, William K. Holman, of Westminster, S.C. “Mrs. Emily” served as secretary of Rick Creek Elementary School for three decades and touched the lives of countless children, parents and others. She had a gift of making everyone that she met feel important and that someone cared for them. Many lives are better because of her caring actions and gentle but firm advice. Her strength and legacy will live with each of us as we move forward. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013, in the chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Chapel on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until just prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of “Mrs. Emily” to the American Cancer Society .
