Elizabeth (Betty) Gross of Blacksburg, returned to the arms of our Lord and Father on January 21, 2016. Born in Savannah, Ga., she moved to Blacksburg in 1954 where she was an active member in her community and her church.

A woman of deep faith, Betty was a founding member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. She played a major role in the implementation of the church’s Share Program and Community Thanksgiving Dinner. She also served on the Church Council and taught Catechism classes, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

Outside of the church, Betty was a member of the Montgomery County School Board, the Jr. Women’s Club, a 4-H leader and a Girl Scout Leader. She worked as a Pantry Chef at the Marriott Hotel and catered weddings and events at Virginia Tech.

Most of all, Betty is remembered as a loving wife, mother and friend who opened her heart and home to all. She took special delight in using her unparalleled skill in the kitchen to make sure that no one would ever leave her house hungry.

Betty is survived by her husband, Walter B. Gross; her three children, Robert, Lisa and Linda; and her three grandchildren, Matt, Andrew and Megan.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory can be made out to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
