Sallie Mae Grogan, 101, of Narrows, VA departed this life October 4, 2020 while a resident of Ridge Care in Princeton, WV. Born October 17, 1918, in Narrows, VA, she was a daughter of the late Cleve and Nannie Atwood Mullins.

Sallie was a 1936 graduate of Narrows High School. She served as a lab technician at both Radford Arsenal and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. With friends she loved, she willingly served her community by giving back in countless ways. She spent her life as a member of the First United Methodist Church in Narrows, VA wher she was a member of the Early Bird Circle. She was a member on the Fairview Cemetery Board, a member of the Narrows Town Council for four years, a member of the Red Hat Society, a charter member of the Progress in Narrows Now Group, a member of the Rose Garden Club, a volunteer at the Giles Carillion Memorial Hospital, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, a weekly participant in a Bowling League in Princeton, WV, and a champion Senior Olympic gold medalist in many categories.

Sallie was known for her fun-loving spirit, and she never missed the opportunity to be the life of the party. Her stories captivated every audience, while her jokes made everyone laugh. Dancing to Rocky Top, she never left a rug uncut with her flatfooting style. Although childless, she was a mother to many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was a diehard Green Wave, Atlanta Braves Baseball, Duke Basketball, and Virginia Tech Football Fan. She never passed up a chance to see one of her kids play and engage in any sport. People never left her home hungry, because there was always room for one more. Her Christmas morning breakfast was a highlight every year.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sterling Grogan; sisters, Clotine Meredith, Pauline Evans, and Libby Blankenstein; brothers, Walt Mullins, Herbert Mullins, Monk Mullins, and Lee Mullins.

Left to cherish her memory are nieces and nephews, Johnny Meredith, Trudy Cooper, Eddie Mullins, Richard Mullins, Keith Mullins, Linda McGlothlin, and Danny Evans; and several great nieces and nephews; and several great great nieces and nephews.

There will be a funeral service held on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke with Pastor Jerry Sawyers officiating. A graveside service will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Narrows, VA. Family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel October 8, 2020 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
