Griggs, Richard Eugene

Richard Eugene Griggs, 75, of Church St., Rich Creek departed this life Monday morning, May 22, 2017 in the peace of his own home and in the loving care of his family and hospice. He was born on March 22, 1942 in Pearisburg a son of the late James Emmett and Zella Edna Caudle Griggs. Richard had worn many hats in his career to provide for his family. He was a Leggetts Store manager, boiler maker and was retired from VPI as Power Plant Supervisor. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers James E.(Junior) Griggs and Fred (Frosty) Griggs and his sister Nellie Griggs Turner.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved and devoted wife of 55 years, Carol Ganoe Griggs; his daughters and sons-in-law Sherry and Anthony Estep of Staffordsville, Teresa and Mark Collins of Pembroke, Karen and Marty Gautier of Rich Creek and Andrea and Scott Hetherington of Pearisburg; his brother Jerry Griggs of Rich Creek; his sister Linda Ratcliffe and husband Johnny of Pearisburg; his grandchildren Anthony Blake, Chas., Kayla, Amanda, Macarah, Matthew, Lauren, Savannah, Alyssa, and Ashton; and his great-grandchildren Addyson and Trenton; and many wonderful and cherished nieces and nephews. Richard’s greatest pride and joy in life was loving and caring for his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 am in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in Sunrise Cemetery in Rich Creek.
