Griffiths, Richard Charles

Richard Charles Griffiths, 56, of Blacksburg, Va., died on Sunday, February 8, 2009, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was born in Hornell, N.Y., on December 25, 1952. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Bradley Griffiths.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Griffiths; two daughters, Krista Griffiths and Kimberly Griffiths, all of Blacksburg; and his mother and father, Clara Bierwiler Griffiths and Wilton Griffiths. Richard received his BS Degree in industrial forestry from VA Tech in 1978. He worked for the VA Tech Forestry Department until he chose to follow his other passion, photography. Not wanting to leave Tech, he took a position with the Visual and Broadcast Communication Department working up to Senior Photographer.

Memorial services will be conducted 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2009, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until service time at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, S.W., Blacksburg, Va.

The family would like to thank everyone for their help and support given to them during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a scholarship in Rick’s name with VA Tech.
