Margaret Ann Grindstaff (Brown) Gregory, of Blacksburg, died on May 23, 2014 at the age of 84. Margaret was born March 22, 1930. Her parents preceded her in death: Laura Sue Clamon Grindstaff and Charles Coleman Grindstaff.

Margaret grew up in Kingsport, Tennessee and attended Dobbins Bennett High School, and East Tennessee State University. A devoted Hokie she retired from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VPI) and the VT Athletics Department in March 2004 after 24 years of service. After her long residency in Blacksburg, Virginia, she spent her final years as a resident in Emeritus Assisted Alzheimer’s Care in Roanoke.

In 2006, Margaret was married to long time Blacksburg dentist Dr. Carlyle Gregory who passed away in February of 2012. Her closest family members: include her children, Sheridan Lynn Brown and husband, John Crawford, of Jacksonville, Fla., Karen Brown DeBord and her husband, Jack Phillips, of Moneta, Va., Michael Gordon Brown and his wife, Lisa Taucher, of Floyd, Va.; her grandchildren, Charles Anthony Hume, Katie Elizabeth Brown, Whitney Lynn DeBord, Garrett Gordon Brown, Shawn Patrick DeBord; great-grandchildren, Destiny Simpson, Jaylyn Brown, Kendall Brown, Jamison DeBord.

Margaret found great joy in being a mom, grandmommy and great-grandmommy. She was a fan of music, Va. Tech football and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed travel, shopping and a fine glass of wine. She was a great holder of the family history and memories and shared stories with her loved ones often.

Margaret had been a member of the Blacksburg United Methodist Church since 1964, where funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2014 with the Rev. Reggie Tuck officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg, VA. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
