Greever, John Sterling

John Sterling Greever, 70, of Dublin, Va., passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017, after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Greever served our country proudly during the Vietnam War from July, 1964, to April, 1966, when he was seriously injured. For his service in the Vietnam War, Mr. Greever was awarded Vietnamese Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, and the Silver Star Medal.

Mr. Greever was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Marlea Ott Greever, of Dublin, Va.; his mother and father, Sarah Velma Dolinger Greever and Fountain Baker Greever, both of Narrows, Va., (formerly from Chilhowie, Virginia). Mr. Greever is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Greever Stoots (Barry), of Old Town, Florida (formerly from Giles County, Va.); his brother, Glenn David Greever Sr., of Prince George, Va.; a niece, Mary Lynn Dobbins, of Pearisburg, Va.; a nephew, Glenn David Greever Jr., of Pearisburg, Va.; special nieces and nephews; special cousins and caregivers, David, Beverly and Amy Terry, of Dublin, Va.; his special aunt and caregiver, Betty Cardwell, of Gladwin, Michigan; special cousins, Herman S. Greever Jr., of Pearisburg, Va., and Howard Greever of Smithburg, Maryland; special military and longtime friend, Charles Berger of Savannah, Ga..; a special caterer friend of many years, Joyce Shores Gordon, of Rocky Mount, Va.; as well as many other special relatives and special friends, all of whom have been very supportive during his long battle with cancer.

No flowers, please. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at the St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Chilhowie, Va. with Pastor Mike Whitaker of Dublin, Va. officiating. Williams Funeral Home of Chilhowie is serving the Greever Family.
