Greene, Harold William

Harold William Greene, of Blacksburg, VA, and Pawleys Island, SC died peacefully at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, SC at the age of 86. He is now with the Lord.

Harold is survived by his wife Ada Mae Greene of Pawleys Island, SC, his son Daryl William Greene and daughter-in-law Chi Thi Greene of Pawleys Island, SC and his 2 grandchildren Tina Mae Greene and Brian William Greene of Pawleys Island, SC.

Harold was born on July 14, 1928 in Beuna Vista, VA to the late Herchel (Tunny) Greene and Annie Ogden Greene. He graduated from Dunsmore Business College in 1948 and worked James Lee Carpet Company for 2 years. He was a proud veteran of the US Air Force. He served a flight logistics instructor during the Korean War at Keeslar Air Force Base in Boloxi, MS. After leaving the Air Force, he attended and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1959 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. His exceptional academic accomplishments earned him an honorary membership into the Eta Kappa Nu academic fraternity.

He married Ada Mae Goodbar in 1948. After moving to Covington, VA Harold began working for Westvaco as an Electrical Engineer. He retired from Westvaco in 1989. Harold was a committed, loving husband to Ada for 66 years. Ada remembers him as the man of her dreams and her constant companion. His only son, Daryl remembers him as a loving, patient, devoted father who encouraged him to pursue his life goals and was always there for him through life’s struggles.

Harold was a devoted Christian. He was a deacon, choir member, and Sunday School teacher for many years at the Covington Baptist Church in Covington, VA. He had a strong love for the Lord and sincere love for all people and a deep compassion for those in need. He loved the great outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a Rotary club member. And he was an avid fan of Va Tech football.

The funeral service is scheduled for Friday, February 20 at 11 AM at Blacksburg Baptist Church at 550 North Main Street, Blacksburg, VA with a procession to the Roselawn Memorial Gardens to follow. Viewing will begin at the church at 10 AM. The Reverend Tommy McDearis will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Harold ‘s life.
