Greene, Carrie Kirk

Carrie Kirk Greene, 81, of Narrows, Va., passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born on February 25, 1928, and was the daughter of the late William Everett and Cora Lee Myers Kirk. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse B. (Jay) Greene Jr.; a son, Wayne Carlton Greene; four brothers, Wray Kirk, Leonard Kirk, William Kirk and James Everett Kirk; and eight sisters, Jane Kirk Faulkner, Grace Kirk Dove, Nellie Kirk Johnson, Edna Kirk Peterson, Evelyn Kirk, Lillian Kirk Lafon, Thelma Kirk Johnson and Katie Mae Kirk. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, New River Ward. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she’ll be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Larry E. Greene and wife, Cheryl, of Pembroke; two daughters, Judy Greene Smith and husband, Bill, of Richmond, and Teresa Greene Phipps and husband, Randy, of Blacksburg; eight grandchildren, Michelle Greene, Paige Greene Grantham and husband, Todd, Mary Beth Helstrom, Nichole Greene, Jason Greene and wife, Ellen, Brian Smith, Kirk Phipps, and Patrick Smith; four great-grandchildren, Emma Kate Greene, Will Greene, Corbin Grantham and Olivia Grantham; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many special friends. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, January 29, 2010, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, New River Ward in Pembroke with Bishop Gary Scott presiding. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
