Ada Mae Greene of Blacksburg and Pawleys Island, SC passed on peacefully at her home in Pawleys Island at the age of 89. She is now with our Lord and with her loving husband,

Ada is survived by her son, Daryl William Greene and daughter-in-law Chi Thi Greene of Pawleys Island, SC; and her two grandchildren, Tina Mae Greene and Brian William Greene of Columbia, SC.

Ada was born on December 10, 1929 in Lexington, VA to the late Lacy Arwy Goodbar and Anna Louise Kirby Goodbar. She was the youngest and last survivor of nine siblings. She graduated from a 2 year business college and had a long career in office administration.

Ada married Harold William Greene on July 3, 1948. She moved to Boloxi, MS in 1952 where Harold served in the Air Force during the Korean War. She gave birth to her only child, Daryl on August 3, 1954 at Keysler Air Force Base. She moved to Blacksburg, VA in 1956 and worked in office administration at Poly Scientific, supporting her family while her husband pursued an Electrical Engineering degree from VPI. After moving to Covington, VA in 1960, Ada began a long career in office Administration with Columbia Gas Company, working in both the Covington and Clifton Forge offices. She retired from Columbia Gas in 1989.

Ada was a committed, loving wife to Harold for 66 years. And she was a supportive, loving mother to her son Daryl. After their retirement in 1989, Ada and Harold split time between their homes in Blacksburg, VA and Pawleys Island, SC. They enjoyed cruises and took an annual cruise from many different ports around the world.

Ada was a devote Christian. She was a choir member and Sunday school teacher for many years at the Covington Baptist Church in Covington, VA. And was an active member of the Blacksburg Baptist church in Blacksburg. Ada had a strong love for the Lord, and a deep compassion for those in need, especially children. She lived her life as a true disciple of our Lord. She had a passion for art, flower arranging, and antique collecting. While in Covington, she was a member of the Woman’s Club, Art Club, and Florist Club where she received several awards for her art and arrangements.

The funeral service is scheduled for 2 PM Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Blacksburg Baptist Church at 550 North Main Street, Blacksburg, VA with a procession to the Roselawn Memorial Gardens to follow. Viewing will begin at the church at 1 PM. The Reverend Tommy McDearis will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ada’s life.
