Elsie Margaret Hawkins Gray, 92, of Blacksburg died, Saturday, January 23, 2010, at Winston Salem Baptist Hospital. She was born in Blacksburg, Virginia on March 25, 1917 to the late Edgar Lee Hawkins, Sr. and Hallie Katharine Price Hawkins.

Also preceded in death by her beloved husband, A. Clifton Gray, a son, A. C. Gray, Jr., two brothers, Edgar Lee Hawkins, Jr. and George Kermit Hawkins, and a sister, Naomi Hawkins Funnel.

She was a devoted homemaker and wife, active in the Cub Scouts with son and Girl Scouts with her daughter. She was also active member in the Lutheran Women’s group and church. A member of the Red Hat Society. In 2004 she moved to be with her daughter.

Survived by her son, Lee G. Gray, of Montpelier, Va.; daughter, Amy Margaret Hall, of Lexington, N.C.; grandchildren, Clifton E. Hall, of Winston Salem, Margaret Hall, Of Low Gap, Carla Gray Wilbur, Riverview, Fla., Fred C. Gray, of Montpelier, Va.; great-grandchildren, Kaylie Wilbur and Collin A. Wilbur, of Riverview, Fla.; sisters, Dorothy H. Craig, of Norfolk, Va. and Pauline N. Talley, Of Richmond, Va.; beloved cat, Tillie; special friends, Stella Gibson, Carolyn Kroger, Donna Elledge, and Jody Young;

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 1 p.m. in the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Schroeder officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery Blacksburg. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home , 150 Country Club Drive SW., Blacksburg.
