Alton Roger (Al) Gray, 60, of Narrows, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina following a long illness.

He was born in Camden, Maine on February 16, 1946 and was the son of Virginia Fish Gray of Brooks, Maine, and the late Alton Lewis Gray. A veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict, he was also a master carpenter and a member of the National Wood Turners Association. He was also a partner with his wife, in the operation of Carol’s Upholstery Shop in Narrows, and was also excellent in antique restoration.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of nearly 37 years, Carol Gray of Narrows; a daughter, Nikki Gray of Rich Creek; a son, Daniel Gray and wife Kristina of Narrows; two stepgrandsons, Kenneth and Brian McGuire, both of Narrows; two sisters, Cynthia Bailey of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Donna Miller of Pensacola, Florida; one brother, Richard Gray of Brooks, Maine; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 26, 2006 at 12 noon in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows, with Father John A. Prinelli officiating, along with rites conducted by VFW Post #6000 of Narrows, American Legion Post #68 of Narrows and American Legion Post #311 of Pembroke.
