Graves, Amy Ruth Black

Amy Ruth Black Graves left this earthly home to go to her Heavenly home on Friday, January 9, 2015. Amy was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, William Arthur Graves Sr.; her older sister, Pinkey Walson; and an infant brother.

She is survived by one son, Arthur Graves (Kelly); and one granddaughter, Alyssa. In addition, she will be missed by sister, Catherine Bond; one step-son, William Graves, Jr.; two step-daughters, Jackie Thompson (Nathaniel) and Cecilia Hickman; two nieces, Georgina Walson and Ruth Wolford (William); two nephews, Melvin Bond and Richard Walson; and a host of great nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Amy was born the youngest daughter of Garland W. Black and Sallie Jones Black on September 12, 1933, in Montgomery County, Va. Amy lived in Radford, Va., all her life and attended school at the Christiansburg Institute.

She also studied cosmetology where she did hair locally for numerous people. Amy married William Arthur Graves, Sr. on October 19, 1970. Amy was a life long, active member of the New Mount Olive United Methodist Church where she held numerous positions serving the Lord. She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star and recently joined the local Chapter of the Garden Club.

Amy will be laid to rest on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at the New Mount Olive United Methodist Church, 309 Russell Ave., Radford, Va.
