Nell Pendleton Gordon, 93, of Narrows, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek.

She was born September 8, 1912 at Hinton, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Miller Allen and Ollie Martin Hammond. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lou Hall (Jack) Pendleton; her second husband, Peyton Fuller Gordon; two brothers and a sister.

Nell was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Narrows where she served in the Women’s Missionary Union. She was also active in the AARP. Nell was a caring person, wife, stepmother and homemaker. She lived in Narrows for many years before moving to MacArthur House in Narrows, English Meadows in Christiansburg, and Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek.

She is survived by three stepchildren, Mrs. Jack Stigel of Bristol, Virginia, William Douglas Pendleton of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Ann Pendleton of Jackson, Michigan. She is also survived by many special friends and relatives, Mrs. Kirk Miller of Conroe, Texas, Betty Ratcliff of Alexandria, Virginia, Garnet Taylor of Ocala, Florida, Frances Morris of Rich Creek, Barbara Stafford of Pearisburg, Blanch Harvey of Pearisburg, Dorothy Moor of Peterstown, Linda Gautier of Narrows, Paul Caudill of Narrows, and Harry and Sue Spangler of Peterstown.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff and friends of Riverview Nursing Home, MacArthur House and English Meadows for the care and comfort provided to her in her last years.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
