Ruth Mae Goodwin, 99, of Elliston, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 16, 2007, at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem.

She was born on September 26, 1907. She was preceded in death by her husband, George “Slim” Goodwin; and two of her children, Wesley E. Perdue and Georgia A. Ebey.

She was known as “Granny” by many people and worked as a cook in a few of the local restaurants like the old Elliston Truck Stop and Wilson’s Restaurant. She loved everybody and was loved by everybody and will be missed.

She is survived by her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lucy E. Workman, of Elliston, Claudine and Raymond Cocke, of Burton, Michigan, and Mary and Fred Phillips, of Elliston; along with 15 grandchildren, 41 greatgrandchildren and 51 greatgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2007 at Seneca Baptist Church with the Rev. Virgil McHone officiating. Interment will follow in East Hill Cemetery, Elliston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to either the Elliston Fire Department or the Shawsville Rescue Squad. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home, Salem.
