Jean Ferrell Goodson, 89, of Pulaski, Va., passed away on Friday, November 19, 2010, in the Skyline Nursing and Rehab Center, Floyd, Va. Born and raised in Greensville, Pa., she came to Pulaski in 1940 after her graduation from National Business College. In addition to marriage and family, she was employed as a personal secretary to a state Supreme Court Justice. She also worked as a stenographer, a newspaper columnist and medical transcriptionist. She was active in the First United Methodist Church in Pulaski and in community service organizations such as Girl Scouts, the Salvation Army and Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Jack V. Goodson; her parents; and a brother. She is survived by three children, Eddie Goodson, of Floyd County, Sue G. and David Hay, of Virginia Beach, and Sara G. and Barry Smith, of Pleasant Garden, N.C.; grandchildren, Andrew Goodson, of Houston, Texas, John and Melissa Goodson, of Floyd County, Brea S. and Chris Miller, of Virginia Beach, Kayla S. and Ryan Anderson, of Richmond, Patrick Hay, of New York City, and Amy Hay, of Virginia Beach; and greatgrandchildren, Carmen and Nikolas Goodson, of Willis, Texas, Chandra, Olivia and Aleah Goodson, of Floyd County, and Dylan Miller, of Virginia Beach. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, from the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski, with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends and family on Monday evening, November 22, 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be given to the Alzheimer’s Association , 2728 Colonial Ave., Suite 2, Roanoke, Va. 24015.
