wedding-ring-quilt.jpgSheffie Rae Chambers Godfrey, 95 of Princeton, West Virginia, has entered her Eternal Life with her Heavenly Father. She was a resident of Angel’s Touch Personal Care of Princeton, West Virginia. We will miss you Mom. You deserve this long awaited rest!

She was born in Athens, West Virginia to A.W (Bud) and Rosa Lee Chambers, the tenth of seventeen children. She graduated from Narrows High School, married James H Godfrey Nov.4, 1939 and lived in the Narrows vicinity until her husband’s death on June 31st, 1994. While in Narrows, she was an active member of the Pentecostal Church teaching Sunday school and was President of the Women’s Auxiliary for 34 years. She moved to Princeton, West Virginia in 1995 and has been an active member of the New Covenant Church.

Her hobbies were sewing, quilt making, reading and writing plays for church presentations. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Princeton Hospital. She always remembered the fun trips to the North Carolina beach with her sisters and nieces as well as the great travels to visit her children and grandchildren in Virginia, North Carolina and Oregon.

Sheffie is survived by her daughter, Edith Godfrey Stoaks of Portland, Oregon; three sons, Jim Godfrey of Princeton, West Virginia, Gordon Godfrey of Kenley, North Carolina, and Arthur Godfrey and wife Donna of Yorktown, Virginia; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Audrey (Bud) Chambers of New Richmond, West Virginia; and four sisters, Dovetta Howard of Roanoke, Virginia, Nina Mann of Peterstown, West Virginia, Rose Marie Dunford of Pearisburg, Virginia, and Yvonne Dunford of Lynchburg, Virginia.

Preceding her in death were her husband, James, and son David; her parents, Bud and Rosa Lee; brothers, Buford, Marvin, Paul and Melbourne; sisters, Elsie Wells, Glenna Hanson Stanley, Ruby Snider, Annie Long, Leona Honeycutt, Willie Schlottehober and Maxine McCoy.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 26th, 2016 at 2 PM at Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church; 809 College Street in Narrows, with Pastor Ron Reevs officiating, assisted by Toy Church. Burial will follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Rich Creek. The family will receive friends at Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church Friday from 12 noon until just prior to the service.
