Godbey, Hazel Bain

Hazel Bain Godbey, 92, of Rock Hill, S.C., and Radford, passed away on July 24, 2015. Hazel was born on January 26, 1923, to the late Roscoe and Bessie Reed.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Bain; her second husband, Geroge Thomas Godbey; her daughter, Ernestine Bain; her brother, William “Pete” Reed; her sister, Gladys Altizer; and her nephews, Eddie Altizer and William and Gary Reed.

She is survived by her son, Kirk Godbey of Fort Mill, S.C.; her nephews, Lloyd Altizer and his wife, Olivia and Emory Altizer and his wife, Judy; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Hazel worked at Cato’s Dress Shop and Russel’s Apparel where she retired. She was also a seamstress in her home where she enjoyed making beautiful quilts. She had many wonderful friends, especially Mary Anne Gardner and Marie Ratcliff. She was a long time resident of Radford and devoted member of First Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday July 28, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford, VA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 29, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Paul Lane officiating. Interment will follow at West View Cemetery in Radford, VA.
