Givens, Janice Payne

Janice Payne Givens, 74, of Narrows, VA, gained her angel wings on Friday, January 8, 2021, while fighting a short battle with cancer at the Carilion Giles Community Hospital surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Janice was born on April 8, 1946, to the late William Hufford and Nora Alice Payne of Clendenin, Narrows, VA. She retired from Celanese in Narrows, VA, after 34 years of service. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her companion of 28 years, Glenn Horton; one brother, Darrell Payne; and two grandchildren, Gary Clark Holstein III and Carleigh Lynn Wells.

She leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, Alvin Givens, and Jason (Karen) Givens, all of Narrows, VA; two daughters, Hadassah Simmons of Narrows, VA, and Crystal Wells (Anthony Dripps) of Pulaski, VA; eight grandchildren, Paige Queensberry, Gavin, Will, Raven, and Oliver Givens, Marissa Brewer, Bradley Simmons, and Victoria Holstein; two very special great grandbabies, Sophia and Jameson Brewer; sisters, Patricia Kirk, Donna Elledge, Monica (Buddy) Evans, and Marcena Williams; one brother, Jackie (Darlene) Payne; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Butch White officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Narrows, VA, with Gavin Givens, Will Givens, Bradley Simmons, Anthony Dripps, Anthony Reynolds, and JoJo Wright serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 12:00PM until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Due to the regulations associated with COVID-19 and the WV Governor’s mandate, those attending the visitation and funeral services shall wear a mask and practice social distancing.
