Mary Susanna Gilmore, known appropriately to everyone as Sweetsie, died July 16, 2022. She was born in Radford on Sept. 23rd, 1954, the daughter of the late William and Mary Susan Goodykoontz.

Sweetsie graduated from Radford High School and worked for years at Radford University. But she put much of her heart and efforts into her home, alongside her husband Ronnie. Together they brought up four daughters, Mary Madeline, Susanna, Lucy, and Bridget, with a sense of purpose, a passion for music and a whole lot of fun.

She was curious and loved to talk and learn about each new person she met. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Radford and a fierce advocate for disability rights. She devoted a lot of her time to supporting swimming and was an especially strong champion of Lucy, both in the pool and out. She loved spending time with family and friends, most often in her backyard, telling stories around the picnic table.

Surviving are her husband Ronald Wayne (Ronnie), of Radford; daughter Mary Madeline Webster and her husband Christopher, of Radford; daughter Susanna Elizabeth Gilmore, of Radford; daughter Lucy Grace Gilmore, of Radford; and daughter Anne Bridget Smith and her husband Chris of Mesa, Arizona. Also her brothers Matthew David Brock and his wife Meg of Melbourne, Florida; Clement (Butter) Brock and his wife Mary Ann, of Richmond; and William Oakey (Billy) Goodykoontz Jr. and his wife Susan of Chandler, Arizona. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Sterling Louis Webster, Mary Eleanora (Nora) Webster, Thomas Fredrick Smith, Charles Wayne Smith, and Andres Alejandro Trujillo-Gilmore. Sweetsie was preceded in death by her brother Samuel Vincent Brock and her parents.

Visitation will be held from 1 until 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2022 at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Cassidy officiating. Interment will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.
